Inspira STEAM is a pioneering project for encouraging science and technology aptitudes among girls<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Inspira STEAM<\/a>\u00a0arose from the need to promote science and technology aptitudes among schoolchildren, particularly girls. The number of students opting for technology training is declining each year, and the figures are particularly alarming in the case of girls. Despite women accounting for 54.3% of students in the Spanish university system, the percentage of girls studying technical courses such as Engineering and Architecture is just 26.4%.<\/p>\n

This is where Abantail<\/a>\u00a0aims to make a contribution.\u00a0Sonia Ortubai<\/a>, Abantail\u2019s Managing Director, is working as a femtor<\/a>\u00a0(female mentor) at the Salbatore Mitxelena school in Zarautz<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The femtors<\/a> are at the heart of this project, helping both girls and boys with 6 working sessions during school time. They are all women who work professionally in different areas of science and technology: the academic field, business, research, management, etc.<\/p>\n

Inspira STEAM is a project developed by\u00a0Deusto University<\/a> with collaboration from Innobasque<\/a>\u00a0in the Basque Country,\u00a0Edenway<\/a>\u00a0and the University of Rovira i Virgili<\/a>\u00a0in Catalonia,\u00a0CIONET<\/a>\u00a0in Madrid, the\u00a0Universities of C\u00e1diz (UCA<\/a>)\u00a0and Ja\u00e9n<\/a>\u00a0in Andalusia, the\u00a0University of Vigo<\/a>\u00a0in Galicia and the\u00a0University of Oviedo<\/a>\u00a0in Asturias, and funded by the three regional governments\u00a0Bizkaia<\/a>,\u00a0Gipuzkoa<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Araba<\/a> in addition to BBK<\/a>,\u00a0Roche<\/a>,\u00a0Barcelona Activa<\/a>,\u00a0Silk<\/a>,\u00a0HP Foundation<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0San Sebasti\u00e1n City Council<\/a>.<\/p>\n
